Bohea Organic

Bohea Organic

This is the original Lapsong tea!

A heavenly, smooth USDA Certified Organic black tea with a sweet oakey note that does not even resemble Lapsong teas of today. I encourage everyone to try this incredible, black tea for a whole new perspective.

Grown high in the Wuyi mountains of China this remarkable tea was once the talk of Europe and made a splash in American history as one of the teas thrown overboard at the Boston Tea Party.

Mellow (Thursday, July 15, 2010)
Reviewer: Dawn

One of my favorite teas for many, many years has been a proprietary lapsang from another purveyor. That tea is quite strong--definitely a campfire in a cup--and I find that I need to limit my consumption because of its strength. Bohea, on the other had, has a lovely, mellow taste. One definitely tastes the smokiness, but it is not overpowering and I can easily see myself lingering over a long pot of bohea. Generally, I like lapsang in the autumn, on a nice crisp day, but bohea strikes me as something one could drink year round. In fact, it's July, I just received bohea as a sample with the purchase of a Tea Traveler cup, and I am back to purchase more bohea. Even my youngest children are not put off by the smokiness of this delicious tea.

Not my first choice (Saturday, June 12, 2010)

I have tried several smoky teas but I guess my palate is not elegant enough to enjoy them.

Delicious, smoky black tea (Tuesday, June 01, 2010)
Reviewer: Janet

This tea was smoky, oaky and delicious! What a wonderful surprise to know it was one of the teas thrown overboard at the Boston Tea Party. What a shame to waste that good tea!

Sweet and smooth (Monday, May 31, 2010)
Reviewer: Amanda

The taste is milder than a typical lapsang. It is decently mellow as far as smokiness – the smoke is there but it blends so well that it’s not like inhaling a campfire with each sip of tea (though I do like those campfire teas, too). It’s heavy and rich without being overpowering or tarry. There’s a very sweet little upswing at the end. This is seriously tasty stuff.

Smoky Love (Friday, May 28, 2010)
Reviewer: Rebecca

I adore smoky teas, and this one has become one that must always be in stock in my tea cupboard. The smoke isn't harsh at all, but gives the oak flavor a bit more oomph. The dry leaves are not the most pleasant ones that I've smelled, so please do not give up on this tea before trying it. If you've been curious about smoky teas, then I recommend that this would be the perfect introduction. If you can handle this smoke easily and enjoy it, then try some even smokier Lapsang Souchongs. I jokingly call this a baby lapsang.

Good choice for a rainy afternoon. (Tuesday, April 27, 2010)
Reviewer: Roger

This tea is a good choice while working at the desk on a rainy afternoon. I like a smoky lapsang souchong once in a while, but I'd drink this Bohea a lot more often. Enough smoke to be distinctive, but this is tea enhanced by a touch of smoke, and not just a smoke delivery system. No milk necessary, it would be hard to brew a harsh cup of this tea.

Bohea or Lapsang Souchong? (Monday, February 23, 2009)
Reviewer: William

I initially got hooked on loose leaf when I was in bed for a week with a bad cold. I had bought a half price tin of lapsang souchong at the local supermarket when they discountinued carrying loose leaf tea. The tin sat in the cupboard for weeks until I caught cold and had little else to drink. As I tried other loose leaf teas, lapsang lost it's appeal. The smokey flavor became somewhat offensive in in it's intensity. I read that bohea was the 'original lapsang' and gave it a try. It is similar to lapsang, but more subtle. I tend to prefer Chinese black teas and oolongs. The bohea in my mind has all the qualities of a good Chinese black tea with a little bit of a smokiness. Very nice.

Wonderful Black Tea (Saturday, January 31, 2009)

My favorite black tea. Best with milk and sugar. Worth the extra cost. Does not produce tanic acid when left to brew too long. Produces weak tea the second time if you try to reuse leaves.

Rediscovered Bohea (Wednesday, January 21, 2009)
Reviewer: Russell Andrews

I had purchased a bag of Bohea twelve months ago, and somehow it got lost in my tea cabinet. After running low on my usual Golden Monkey,Oolongs and Green teas, I discovered a bag of unopened Bohea. I tried it and was instantly hooked. The flavor is delightful and stimulating. I have so many favorites and this one will also go on the list.

Bohea Black Tea (Sunday, March 16, 2008)

I like strong black teas! To me Bohea outshines them all, primarily because of its very unusual oakey flavor. The history of being one of the Boston Tea Party teas just adds to the experience.

Where has this tea been hiding? It is so smooth, full bodied and just plain GOOD! I ordered the first time after reading the description and am reordering this time because it is my newest favorite.

I bought this tea on a whim ,because I like history. I am glad I did. I am enjoying A cup as I type this. This tea has a wonderful smell and taste. I have been able to steep at least three times.

Our favorite in the organic tea sampler (Friday, January 05, 2007)
Reviewer: Katherine

We received the organic tea sampler for Christmas, and so far our favorite has been the Bohea--a nice black tea with a touch of a smoky flavor, somewhat similar to good Russian Caravans (but not STRONG smoky/ashy flavor like Lapsang Souchong). It's good both with and without milk. I think this will be one of the teas we reorder for an encore brewing!
