Gunpowder Organic

Gunpowder Organic

Our USDA Certified Organic Gunpowder Imperial is the highest grade available and comes from the renowned "green tea triangle" in Anhui Province, China.

Called "Gunpowder" because of the pellet like appearance, not all gunpowder green tea is the same. For the finest quality look for a consistent size and shape in the roll, a dark almost shiny finish to the leaf and a smoother, not as smoky a finish as some of the lower grade teas.

great value (Thursday, January 28, 2010)

I love the taste to value ratio of this tea! It is an excellent example of gunpowder tea, (I'd actually give it a 4.5 rating) made all the better by it being an organic tea!

A wonderful tea (Wednesday, December 16, 2009)

Gunpowder green is not a tea for everyone, but, if you know you like it, this is an excellent example of it. I wanted to mention that I purchased this tea along with a travel mug and was having problems getting the water temperature to amount of gunpowder correct (i.e. to keep the tea from going bitter). Well, I emailed Beth (as in the Ask Beth of this website) and, to my amazement, I got a reply within an hour of my email. She and I walked through the different options until I found one that worked perfectly with the travel mug. This is amazing customer service that I can't imagine getting anywhere else. Oh, for those who are curious, it turns out that 170 deg. centigrade water and a scant teaspoon (scant being the important word) will give you a travel mug of tea that will not turn bitter. I even left the water and tea in the mug for 30 minutes to see if it would have any problems and it did not.

Correction to my review (Wednesday, December 16, 2009)

I wanted to correct my last review. The temperature should have been 170 degrees Fahrenheit not centigrade. Super heating water for tea seems like a dangerous and bad idea!

I am not a big fan of the Green Teas. However, I don't mind Gunpowder. To me all the green teas have a funny taste to them.

Enjoyable (Saturday, September 26, 2009)

Able to get two cups by brewing twice, but need to be careful of time brewing as can get strong and bitter.

Organic Green Tea (Friday, May 01, 2009)

When I opened the bag of Gunpowder I found a nice jade green firm leafed tea. I tend to over brew my tea by choice. I found this this tea to be bold, but not bitter, with a slightly aged, earthy flavor. Very nice!

A good gunpowder green! The flavors blend together well, very suddle and smooth.

A good, solid gun powder. (Tuesday, January 27, 2009)
Reviewer: Boryana

This gunpowder is quite strong, and lacks the fishy taste of many gunpowders I have tried. It is an excellent base tea if you like to flavour your teas with rose petals, essential oils, or spices.

A little goes a long way (Saturday, January 03, 2009)

Good tasting green tea. Be sure to steep in a clear mug or pitcher so that you can see the leaves hydrate and reach full size.

Smokey and full, but not one of my favorite greens. Rather than having subtle shadings, it hit me across the head with a 2X4.

Green and Good (Saturday, December 20, 2008)

This green tea really expresses the earthyness of tea and distinguishes it from other basic green teas.

Smooth and Easy (Tuesday, December 09, 2008)
Reviewer: Gail

Before I tried this tea, I was not much of a Gunpowder fan, but this one is quite nice, smooth and easy on the throat. I also use it to mix with other teas.

My Favorite Green Tea (Tuesday, June 17, 2008)

Your Gunpowder Imperial Organic is my favorite green tea. I start my day with it everyday. It has flavor- not to light- but not bitter. I appreciate that its organic as well.

I just tried this tea for the first time. I like the tea, but is heavier in flavour than I expected. I may try using a little less tea when I brew my next pot.
